Airbus
For its long and short-haul routes SWISS relies on the proven aircraft models from the European manufacturer Airbus.
Airbus A319-100
With a length of 33.8 metres, the A319-112 is one of the smallest aircraft in the Airbus family. It flies distances of up to 3000 km for SWISS, and has between 138 seats. The two CFM56 engines accelerate the Airbus A319-112 to an average speed of 750 kilometres per hour. SWISS uses this aircraft type within Europe and between Switzerland, Africa and the Near East. They are an average of nine years old.
Special Features
The new aircraft type applies the latest advances in engine, systems and materials technology to set new standards in terms of profitability and environmental compatibility. Fuel consumption compared to the Avro fleet will be reduced by as much as one quarter.

Airbus A320-200
For distances of up to 3600 km, SWISS uses the Airbus A320. It has between 168 and 180 seats and carries up to a maximum of 3 tonnes of cargo. The CFM56 engines are state-of-the-art in terms of environmental compatibility. SWISS uses this aircraft type within Europe and between Switzerland, Africa and the Near East.
Special Features
In 2013, the first Airbus A320 was fitted with the so-called sharklets. The curved wing ends are reminiscent of a shark’s fin, and make the aircraft more energy-efficient. Flying with sharklets saves fuel, reduces CO2 emissions and greatly reduces noise levels.

With a length of 44.5 metres, the Airbus A321-111 is the ‘big brother’ of the A320 family; it is about one-third longer than the Airbus A319. Airbus A330-300
These aircraft can carry a maximum of 236 passengers. The capacity is divided into 183 Economy seats, 45 Business seats and 8 First-Class armchairs. Following the introduction of the A330-300, SWISS was the first airline in the world to offer First Class tickets on all long haul flights. The innovative pneumatic seat technology provides maximum comfort in First and Business Class. The jet is powered by two Rolls-Royce 772B-EP (enhanced performance) engines.
Special Features
The new SWISS Business seat on the A330-300 is probably the lightest of its kind. The air cushion alone makes the seat four kilograms lighter than the conventional version with foam padding. This weight reduction by itself will help SWISS to save over 650 tonnes of kerosene a year, and reduce the company’s annual CO2 emissions by over 2000 tonnes.

Airbus A340-300
With a range of about 11,000 km, the Airbus A340-300 serves all SWISS destinations around the world non-stop and with a full payload. The modernised version of the jet provides maximum comfort in SWISS Business thanks to the innovative pneumatic seat technology.
Special Features
The A340-300 has the endurance of a marathon runner, and holds several long-distance records. The winglets on the tips of the wings reduce wing vibration, which saves a tremendous amount of kerosene. The winglets also give the Airbus an elegant appearance.
